BetBoom Team have been eliminated from BLAST Slam VIII after losing 2–1 to OG in their decisive Group C series. BetBoom took the opening map but could not close either of the next two, finishing the tournament in the reported 9th–12th place range. The result gives the first competitive warning for the experimental lineup with Vitalie “Save-” Melnic in mid, although one event cannot settle whether the role change will last.

The series lasted three substantial games. BetBoom won the opener, but OG answered in the second game and controlled the decider to complete the comeback. OG advanced to the Last Chance stage, while BetBoom’s run ended in the group phase after a single match victory.

That sequence matters because BetBoom were not swept. They showed enough to win the first map and remained competitive deep into the second, but the series moved away from them over time. The failure was therefore not simply an inability to lane with the new roles; it was an inability to convert an initial advantage into qualification across a best-of-three.

Analysts see problems beyond the final score

Commentator Vladimir “Maelstorm” Kuzminov described the series as unusually chaotic and judged that OG played strange Dota while BetBoom barely played at all. Coach Timur “Ahilles” Kulmukhambetov focused on the concept behind Save-‘s mid role. He questioned the value of drafting Muerta simply to survive the matchup when the lineup did not turn that lane into effective activity elsewhere.

Anton “dyrachyo” Shkredov raised a different structural concern: the absence of a clearly defined core player who takes responsibility for decisive calls. In his view, the roster lacks an equivalent to Yatoro’s leadership role on Team Spirit. He and Ahilles also discussed Save-‘s move as a potentially temporary solution during gpK’s break. These are informed opinions, not statements from BetBoom management.

The criticism also reached the safe lane. Before the elimination was complete, dyrachyo said Kiritych and Kataomi had been a weak point in matches he watched and argued that repeated lane losses could damage the team’s confidence. The decider offered a broader example of the problem Ahilles described: OneJey’s Gyrocopter created pressure while BetBoom struggled to give their cores playable engagements.

It would be misleading to assign the entire exit to one player. Moving Save- changes support coordination, farm distribution, drafting and the identity of the mid hero at the same time. Kiritych and Kataomi also operate inside that system. BetBoom need to determine whether the loss came from execution that practice can repair or from a concept that asks the wrong things of several roles.

The next test is whether BetBoom change the idea or its details

Ahilles advocated a more active mid approach. That could mean different heroes, earlier support movement or a clearer plan for converting lane equilibrium into objectives. It does not automatically require abandoning Save- as mid. A roster can keep the same personnel while changing who receives the first rotation, who starts fights and who owns the final call.

BetBoom will not get another series at BLAST Slam VIII to demonstrate an adjustment. Their next event will therefore be judged against a clear baseline: the debut system won one match, lost the decisive series to OG and left analysts unconvinced by its direction.

  • BetBoom won map one before OG completed a 2–1 comeback.
  • The defeat eliminated BetBoom in the group stage.
  • Ahilles questioned a passive mid-lane concept around Save-.
  • dyrachyo highlighted leadership and safe-lane execution.
  • The analysts’ explanations remain opinions rather than official team conclusions.

BetBoom’s first tournament with Save- in mid ended with a real competitive failure, but the useful question is what the team learns from it. OG exposed problems in activity, leadership and lane conversion across three maps. BetBoom now have to decide whether sharper execution can rescue the experiment or whether the structure itself needs a larger redesign.
