Vitalie “Save-” Melnic says his move from position four to mid finally gave him the change he had wanted for years. BetBoom Team carry Ilya “Kiritych” Ulyanov has now explained the practical consequence: the team no longer expects Save to direct every early movement while playing a farm-dependent core. The revised system distributes calls according to lane, item timing and game phase instead of asking one player to reproduce his support habits from a different position.
Save considered both mid and support earlier in his career before choosing position four roughly seven years ago. His results as a support kept improving, which made a switch difficult to justify. After a second consecutive fourth-place finish at The International and a fifth unsuccessful TI campaign overall, he decided the moment had arrived to test the role he preferred. He has not presented the decision as guaranteed success: he openly allowed for the possibility that it fails and he returns.
The first requirement is laning. Save said a weak lane makes everything that follows harder, and he is working with TORONTOTOKYO, a TI-winning mid player who now coaches the team. He plans to use conventional mid heroes alongside occasional personal picks, but he rejected the idea of playing the lane like a low-economy roaming support. A modern mid still has to collect farm and reach meaningful item timings.

BetBoom moves calls toward the strongest timing
Kiritych described early communication as a shared task. Swedenstrong carries much of the opening-game voice, Save contributes when he sees a move or reaches a timing, and MieRo takes responsibility when his own offlane timing becomes relevant. Later, around fights for Roshan, Tormentors and other objectives, Kiritych speaks more because the carry often holds the highest net worth and must coordinate how that power is used.
This is not silence imposed on Save. On heroes such as Dragon Knight or when an item like Spirit Vessel or Blink Dagger opens a play, he can still make the call. The difference is opportunity. A support moves through the map with fewer farming obligations and naturally sees more immediate chances to help a lane or contest a rune. A mid player must balance those chances against waves, levels and the next core item.
The same balance changes Kiritych’s game. If Save uses a mobile hero such as Earth Spirit and creates early pressure, a hard carry like Terrorblade or Phantom Lancer can keep farming toward a larger item set. If the draft gives Save a greedier mid and Kiritych a Tiny that must act around Blink Dagger, the carry may have to become the earlier mover. BetBoom’s approach is therefore draft-dependent rather than a permanent division between farmer and playmaker.
The lineup had practised together for about two weeks when Save spoke. Swedenstrong had joined as the new support after periods with 1w and NAVI, while the other four players remained. Save identified his own role change as the largest unresolved element. That is a useful limit on early judgment: the team can define responsibilities now, but only official matches will show whether those responsibilities remain clear under pressure.
A role experiment with honest limits
Save’s comments avoid the usual certainty around a major role swap. He wanted the experiment, understands that his style is unfinished and accepts that the outcome may force another decision. Kiritych’s explanation adds evidence that BetBoom is redesigning its communication rather than simply moving the same caller to a new lane.
The most convincing part of the system is its logic: the player with the relevant information and power should speak. The difficult part is speed. Competitive fights do not pause while a team decides whose timing matters most. BetBoom’s early season will be a test of whether a flexible chain of command creates clarity or hesitation.
- Save returned to a role he had considered before choosing support years ago.
- Swedenstrong now supplies much of BetBoom’s early-game communication.
- Save and MieRo call around their own hero and item timings.
- Kiritych becomes more vocal when carry farm must convert into objectives.

| Game phase | Likely voice | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Early game | Swedenstrong and Save | Support movement and mid opportunities |
| Core timings | Save or MieRo | A hero or item creates a specific play |
| Mid-game objectives | Kiritych | Carry net worth must shape the fight |
Save’s move is more than a lane change. It shifts where BetBoom gets information, who can move freely and when the carry must lead. The team has a coherent explanation for the new system; BLAST and the events that follow will show whether it can execute that explanation quickly enough.
