Team Spirit defeated 1w Team 2–0 to finish first in Group B at BLAST Slam VIII. The result kept Spirit unbeaten through its group and moved the team into the tournament’s seeding matches, where it will meet another group winner. For 1w, the loss ended the chance to take the direct first-place route after its opening victory over Natus Vincere. The sweep was decisive, but the two maps reached that outcome at very different speeds.
The opening map lasted 42 minutes and 37 seconds. Spirit finished it with 41 kills to 1w’s 28, making it the more extended and competitive half of the series. The second map was much shorter: Spirit closed in 21 minutes and 50 seconds with a 36–9 kill score. Those figures describe the result rather than every tactical cause, but together they show that 1w never managed to turn the series into a deciding third map.
Spirit entered the match after beating Team Nemesis 2–1 in its first Group B series. 1w had also begun with a 2–1 win, overcoming NAVI after an opener that featured major swings in gold advantage. That made the head-to-head a match for first place rather than an elimination series. Spirit converted the opportunity and completed the current stage without a defeat.

Two maps created one clear bracket advantage
The immediate reward is structural. First place removes Spirit from the last-chance side of the bracket and places it against another group winner for seeding. That does not award the BLAST title or settle the playoff picture by itself. It gives the team a stronger route into the next phase and another match in which placement, rather than survival, is the first concern.
The contrast between the maps also matters for review. Map one gave Spirit more than forty minutes of evidence from a contested game. Map two showed that the team could press an advantage quickly enough to deny 1w time for the kind of recovery it had produced against NAVI. It would be excessive to call one series proof of a complete new identity, especially with Spirit competing after recent personnel changes. It is fair to say the revised lineup passed its first group test.
Spirit is playing BLAST Slam VIII with Ilya “Illidan” Pivtsaev coaching and Bogdan “Batyuk” Batyuk in the active lineup while Yaroslav “Miposhka” Naidenov and Magomed “Collapse” Khalilov are away from their previous roles. Every early result will naturally be compared with the championship roster, but this win supplies useful evidence without requiring an instant historical verdict. The team handled a three-map opener, then produced a clean sweep when group leadership was available.
For 1w, the series should be read within the same tournament context. The team remains defined by more than one poor map and had already shown resilience in its win over NAVI. The short second game is still a warning: when Spirit accelerated, 1w could not slow the map or create another comeback. Its next assignment will test whether that loss remains isolated or exposes a repeatable weakness.
What the group finish actually establishes
Spirit has established three things: it won both Group B series, it did not lose the first-place match, and it earned the seeding route. The result does not establish the identity of its next opponent, the final playoff seed or how the roster will perform on the Malta stage. Keeping those limits clear makes the win more useful, not less impressive.
BLAST Slam VIII runs from September 29 to October 11 across online play and a LAN stage in Malta. Sixteen teams are competing for a $750 thousand prize pool. In that format, a fast group success buys position and preparation time, but it is still the beginning of the event. Spirit now advances with the best outcome available from Group B and with two very different winning maps to examine before the next round.
- Spirit beat 1w Team 2–0 in the Group B first-place series.
- The first map lasted 42:37 and ended with a 41–28 kill score.
- Spirit closed map two in 21:50 with 36 kills to 1w’s nine.
- The unbeaten group winner advances to a match for playoff seeding.

| Group B step | Team Spirit result | Tournament effect |
|---|---|---|
| Opening series | Beat Team Nemesis 2–1 | Reached the first-place match |
| First-place series | Beat 1w Team 2–0 | Finished first in Group B |
| Next phase | Seeding match pending | Will face another group winner |
Spirit’s sweep did more than add a favorable score to the opening week. It secured the strongest available path out of Group B and showed the team could win both a long contest and a rapid close. The larger questions about the revised roster remain for later rounds, but its first BLAST objective has been completed cleanly.
