PGL Wallachia Season 9 opened its playoff bracket with four completed series and a clear split between the upper-bracket winners and the teams forced into elimination matches. Xtreme Gaming, LGD Gaming, Aurora Gaming and Team Yandex advanced, while Team Nemesis, Natus Vincere, GamerLegion and 1w Team dropped into the lower bracket. Three of the four series ended without a deciding map; LGD’s meeting with NAVI was the exception.

Xtreme began the day with a 2-0 victory over Team Nemesis. Ame set the pace on the first map with Lone Druid, finishing 10/0/11, and Xtreme survived a more awkward second draft in which a last-pick Viper pressured Xm’s Slark. The important result was not only another clean series but the continuation of Xtreme’s unbeaten run after a 3-0 Swiss stage. Their next upper-bracket opponent is LGD.

LGD reached that semifinal through the only three-map series of the round. NAVI took one map, and the decider exposed moments of poor coordination from the new LGD lineup. Even so, Wits’ carry Doom and Davai Lama’s Black Holes gave LGD enough control to finish the series. The win should be read as progress with visible flaws: LGD advanced at its first tournament with this group, but the match did not suggest that every part of the team is already settled.

Aurora and Yandex arrange a reunion

The second half of the opening round produced two more 2-0 results. Aurora defeated GamerLegion, while Team Yandex beat 1w Team. Those wins place Aurora and Yandex on the same side of the upper bracket and create a direct meeting between former Team Falcons teammates. skiter now carries for Aurora, while ATF occupies the offlane for Yandex, so the semifinal adds a familiar lane rivalry to a match that already matters for tournament position.

Yandex controlled its series against 1w from the first map and closed the second without allowing a comeback. The result extends the team’s strong start with its revised roster, but it does not settle the tournament. Aurora reached the same round through its own sweep, and both teams now face an opponent that has already survived the Swiss stage and one playoff series. The next match will provide a more useful comparison than pre-match comments or roster reputation.

The opening day also changed the pressure on the losing sides. A lower-bracket assignment removes the margin for another defeat. Nemesis must respond after being contained by Xtreme, NAVI must recover from a series it pushed to three maps, and GamerLegion and 1w need answers after straight-map losses. Their tournament runs remain alive, but every subsequent series is now an elimination match.

For the winners, the bracket presents two different tests. Xtreme and LGD meet after contrasting performances: Xtreme looked stable across two maps, while LGD won despite stretches of disconnection. Aurora and Yandex both arrive from sweeps, making their semifinal less about recovery and more about whose new structure holds up when the opposition is in form.

What the first playoff round established

The first round produced four upper-semifinalists but no champion. Xtreme’s clean record and Ame’s form make the team an obvious contender, although Nemesis was only the first playoff obstacle. LGD showed enough resilience to win a difficult decider, yet also displayed problems that a stronger opponent can punish. Aurora and Yandex avoided the same uncertainty by finishing their series in two maps.

That balance is the useful conclusion from day one. Results created the next matchups and gave each team a different problem to solve, but they did not erase the limits of a single round. The upper bracket rewards the four winners with another chance even if they lose next, while the lower bracket turns every weakness into an immediate risk.

  • Xtreme and LGD advanced to one upper-bracket semifinal.
  • Aurora and Team Yandex advanced to the other upper-bracket semifinal.
  • Nemesis, NAVI, GamerLegion and 1w Team moved into elimination territory.

Opening series Result Bracket consequence
Xtreme Gaming vs Team Nemesis 2-0 Xtreme advanced
LGD Gaming vs NAVI 2-1 LGD advanced
Aurora Gaming vs GamerLegion 2-0 Aurora advanced
Team Yandex vs 1w Team 2-0 Yandex advanced

The upper semifinals are now defined by Xtreme versus LGD and Aurora versus Team Yandex. The first pairing asks whether LGD can tidy its coordination before meeting the tournament’s cleanest team. The second puts two successful new-season projects against each other and reunites former Falcons players on opposite sides. Day one supplied the bracket and the evidence; the next round will show which of those signals lasts.
