Ivan “OneJey” Zhivitsky says his move to OG began in ordinary morning ranked games with Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen. The two players repeatedly appeared in the same matches, after which Topson added the support on Steam and contacted him about joining the roster. OneJey liked the proposal and accepted. His account provides a simple recruitment timeline, while leaving the new lineup’s competitive level for official matches to decide.

Ranked matchmaking can function as a long, informal trial because professionals see more than a public rating. Repeated games reveal communication habits, hero decisions and how a player reacts when a match becomes difficult. OneJey did not describe a scheduled tryout or a long negotiation. He described Topson noticing him through recurring morning games and then starting the conversation directly.

That route does not mean the decision was random. Topson had current examples of OneJey’s play before making contact, and OneJey had direct experience of Topson’s unusual approach to the game. Their familiarity was limited compared with an established team, but it was more meaningful than selecting a name from a leaderboard without playing together.

The invitation became a boot-camp reality

OneJey said the idea appealed to him immediately and that he still found it remarkable to share a boot camp with Topson. He praised the roster’s individual skill and the fact that each player brings ideas to the group. Those comments describe his early impression. They do not yet establish that the roles and concepts will remain balanced under tournament pressure.

He made that limit clear himself by saying only time would show how balanced the lineup is. That is a useful distinction for a newly announced roster. Practice can build confidence and expose possibilities, while official series test drafting, communication and recovery after losses. OG announced the lineup on September 23, leaving a short window before its first competition.

The organisation’s history creates another kind of pressure. OneJey acknowledged comparisons with OG’s 2018 championship lineup but said he does not feel weighed down by them. His reasoning is focused on the present players: they are skilled, and their results will depend on what this group does rather than on recreating an older team.

That is a healthier competitive target than promising to reproduce a famous era. Topson’s individual style is part of the new roster’s identity, but OneJey did not claim that one veteran can guarantee its success. His stated goals are narrower—play well, show his best level and enjoy the process. Results can then give those goals a measurable context.

BLAST Slam VIII provides the first test

OG’s debut is scheduled for BLAST Slam VIII, which runs from September 29 to October 11 across online and LAN stages. Sixteen teams will compete for $750 thousand. The event arrives quickly enough that the first matches may reveal the roster’s starting principles more clearly than its finished form. Limited preparation time makes simple role clarity especially valuable.

For OneJey, the tournament will also move the story beyond recruitment. Morning ranked games explained how Topson found him; they cannot answer how he performs inside OG’s drafts or on a larger stage. The next evidence will come from his positioning, hero pool, lane partnerships and communication when the lineup faces structured opponents.

  • OneJey and Topson repeatedly met in morning ranked games.
  • Topson added him on Steam and contacted him about the OG roster.
  • OneJey likes the lineup but says competitive balance still has to be demonstrated.
  • BLAST Slam VIII is scheduled to be the roster’s first tournament.

OneJey’s recruitment story is credible because it is modest: repeated games created familiarity, Topson sent a message and the support accepted an appealing project. The move gives OG an organic starting connection, not a guarantee. BLAST Slam VIII will show how well that connection translates from ranked matchmaking and boot camp into professional Dota.
