Dawn Bulls were unable to take part in the DreamLeague Season 30 open qualifier after falling outside the event’s regional roster rule. Carry Indji “Shad” Lub said the team has two players based in Western Europe, two in Southeast Asia and one in Eastern Europe. That distribution leaves it without the three-player majority required for any one regional qualifier. Shad called the outcome unfair because, as he described it, the rule prevents this particular five from choosing any region at all.
The team had applied for the first Western European open qualifier, played on October 9–10, but did not compete in it. This is a participation issue rather than an elimination in a Dota 2 match: Dawn Bulls were not beaten in the bracket described in the reports. The published requirement is that a majority of a qualifying team be based in the region it represents throughout qualification. For a five-player roster, that means at least three players in one region. Shad said he understands why organizers tightened regional eligibility after earlier problems, but argued that a mixed-region stack should still have a route to play.

Why Dawn Bulls fit no region
The roster composition explains the decision more clearly than a vague label such as “international team.” Shad and Xibbe account for the Western European pair; sanctity- and Se are the Southeast Asian pair; yamich is the Eastern European player. None of those regions contains a majority of three. Changing only the qualifier selected would therefore not solve the arithmetic under the rule as reported. The listed team is not accused of fielding an ineligible substitute or breaching an in-game rule; the obstacle is the regional location of its five intended participants. ESL had not publicly commented on this particular case in the reports consulted.
LGD Gaming offlaner Davai responded to Shad’s post by questioning why the players could not choose a region while competing from home rather than gathering at a bootcamp. Shad agreed with the concern and said the current interpretation bars mixed-region stacks unless they are physically together in one region. That exchange is a criticism from players, not an announced policy change. It also does not mean a new qualifier slot has been granted to Dawn Bulls. The rule was still being applied when the team’s Western European entry was rejected.
The qualification path still ahead
DreamLeague Season 30’s closed regional stage is scheduled for October 13–17, with the main online tournament set for December 2–13. The reports list a $750,000 prize pool and five regional berths, one each through Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, China and South America. Those dates and slots show what Dawn Bulls hoped to reach, but they do not change the team’s eligibility position. The reported exception for North American teams reflects the absence of a dedicated North American qualifier; it allows a choice between South America and Western Europe. It is a defined exception, not a general option for every multinational roster. This rule is about where a team can qualify, not about a player’s passport in isolation. The roster’s two-two-one location split is decisive because each regional entry requires a majority based in that region throughout the qualifier. A statement that the team is merely ‘international’ would obscure the specific eligibility test that stopped the attempted entry.
- Shad says the team sought entry to the Western European open qualifier but could not play there under the regional-majority rule.
- A move to the Eastern European or Southeast Asian qualifier would not create the required three-player majority for the same roster.

| Region in roster | Dawn Bulls players |
|---|---|
| Western Europe | Shad and Xibbe |
| Southeast Asia | sanctity- and Se |
| Eastern Europe | yamich |
The dispute centers on a gap between a clear regional-majority rule and a roster divided across three regions. Shad has asked for a way for his team to compete, but the reports contain no approval or revised ruling. Until the organizer changes the eligibility decision or the team changes its qualifying circumstances, Dawn Bulls should not be described as participating in the DreamLeague Season 30 qualifier.
